African-American studies draws from varied disciplines: philosophy and religion, English, history, music, economics, and sociology. Through courses such as African-American Religion, African Novels, History of Jazz, African-American History, and Urban Sociology, students learn about many aspects of African-American life and develop a clearer understanding of society. Courses explore how current customs are affected by historical practices. Faculty may take students to South Africa to study religion and philosophy, including justice after apartheid. African-American studies is offered as a minor. Faculty Contact:Professor Edward Scott - escott@mbc.edu Faculty
