May Term
For
three weeks after the end of the spring semester, Mary Baldwin students
take a concentrated course (or sometimes two, especially if the second
is physical education) that meets every day. These courses, typically
open to all students and not just majors or juniors or seniors, range
widely. They often include field trips or other excursions. Some are
foreign study.
Recent offerings have included
- Analysis of Film;
- The Internet: Technology, Identity, and Culture;
- Women in Management;
- Field Biology (studied in the lovely landscapes in nearby
mountains, meadows, and streams);
- Women in U.S. History;
- Jazz in New Orleans (yes, with a trip to New Orleans);
- Music in the Theatre;
- U.S. Hispanic Literature and Culture;
- the Psychology of Women;
- London Theatre (see nearly a dozen plays or musicals in London);
- tennis, golf, dance, and self defense.
Each of these courses gives you a rare opportunity to focus on a subject
in depth -- and a not-so-rare opportunity at Mary Baldwin to have fun
and to venture off campus.
