Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure Program

If you are a college graduate and have decided to make a career switch into teaching.

You will earn a five-year renewable Virginia Collegiate Professional Teaching License through a program that is tailored to your specific goals and background. A Mary Baldwin faculty advisor will be available throughout your time in the program to help you plan your course of study and steer you through the state requirements.

Courses are offered in flexible formats that fit the reality of working adults - independent study, on-line and group tutorials which meet in the evening or weekends.

Endorsements available in: Early Education PK-6, Middle Education 6-8, or Secondary Education 6-12 (art, biology, business, chemistry, English, French, Spanish, math, music, social studies, or theatre arts with college major in endorsement area)

General Studies requirements (previous courses accepted):

  • Arts and Humanities - 12 semester hours, including English grammar, art education, and electives
  • Social Studies - 12 semester hours, including American history, world history, human growth and development, and electives
  • Math and Natural Sciences - 12 semester hours, including algebra, math for teachers, and science electives
  • Computer Competency - 3 semester hours or competency
  • Professional Studies in Education - up to 29 semester hours including Foundations of Education, Practicum, Understanding Exceptional Individuals, Content Area Reading, Teaching Methods, and Supervised Student Teaching

Admission Requirements

All applicants send:

  • Official transcripts from all previous colleges - 2.5 overall GPA required
  • A completed application form and $35 application fee
  • Passing scores on the PRAXIS I, SAT, or ACT exams
  • A written statement discussing your reasons for entering the teaching profession

Applicants:
After submission of these materials, you will receive an individualized print-out of your specific course requirements based on your transcript evaluation.

Please note: You will also be required to attend an orientation at your MBC regional campus to launch your program.
