Time Management

Topics:

Key Terms:

  • Goals
    • Long-Term
    • Short-Term
  • Subtasks
  • Active Learning

Conclusion:

Everyone has difficulty managing his/her time, and everyone tends to do the following:

  • Focus on what you have not done rather than on what you have accomplished.
  • Focus on an entire block of work rather than on each individual step.
  • Put off doing the tasks you like least, even though you know they need to be done and plague you day in and day out!

Some type of time management system is required when you have a lot to do, because if you wait to do tasks you don't like until you "feel like it" you may never do they at all! Here are some ways to avoid procrastination (which can be stressful in itself):

  • Look reasonably at your time and see yourself accomplishing goals step-by-step.
  • Keep a positive outlook, you should attempt to accomplish "small" tasks daily.
  • Look at what you have accomplished, rather than at what sill needs to be done, at the end of the day.

Studying efficiently throughout the semester saves you time by eliminating the need for rereading, extensive rewriting, and marathon study sessions at the end of the semester. Maximize your time by:

  • Studying actively
  • Write, recite, and review as you read, and plan ahead when writing a research paper to avoid rewrites later.
  • Create study sheets using your textbook and notes when preparing for exams; study only from these sheets, which should contain keys concepts you have already learned.
