Erigeron annus

Daisy fleabane

Names and Myths

Erigeron Early old man (Because the flowers in spring turn gray like hair)

annus annual.

Natural history / Folklore

Often mistaken for an aster, but blooms earlier. Apomamy, asexual reproduction  without the fusion of gametes. Evolution therefore occurs based on selection of colonial lines and many distinct clones now exist. Astringent properties prevented fleabanes from finding a place on the dinner table. They are one of the weed species that has spread from North America to Europe.9
