Hedeoma Greek hedysomon a fragrant species of mint hedys sweet, and osome odor

pulegioides Latin pulegium a flea, an insect it repels.

Natural history / Folklore

Plant’s odor resembles odor of European pennyroyal. Has been cultivated for use in insect repellents.32 In the Appalachians it was also used as a treatment for pneumonia.35


Small bluish flowers in axial clusters. Strong pennyroyal scented leaves.
