Web Development Request Guidelines and Procedures

The Office of Communication, Marketing, and Public Affairs Director of Web Communications (DWC) oversees and manages web development projects according to the following criteria:

  • relevance to the stated web development goal for Communication, Marketing, and Public Affairs
  • value in accomplishing Mary Baldwin's strategic goals and mission
  • value in accomplishing the goals of the department and or individuals requesting the project
  • value to the overall efficacy of the college's web site
  • appropriateness of web technology for the requested purpose
  • availability of resources (funding and/or technical skills) to complete the project

The web development goal for Communication, Marketing, and Public Affairs is to increase effectiveness of MBC's web site as a marketing and communications tool.

The needs of Admissions, Alumnae/i, Development, ADP, MAT, M.Litt., VWIL, PEG, Athletics, and College Relations factor heavily where these departments share a mission of communicating effectively with our external populations especially for promotional and/or recruiting purposes. Time for specific project development is limited and therefore must be allocated as effectively as possible in order to support stated goals.

While the primary focus of attention is on communication with our external populations, we also share a desire to promote the use of web technology for internal communications. In fact, effective web tools and communication for internal populations often help to communicate what is good about the college to external audiences as well. When time and resources are available, the DWC provides support for this purpose.

When demands exceed the time and other resources available, the Web Development Priorities Committee will assess the college's need for the projects under consideration, their urgency, their costs and benefits, and available resources. The committee will then prioritize the projects and issue recommendations for appropriate steps which may include alternate proposals for addressing the identified needs.

To facilitate this process, requests for the development of site applications should be accompanied by a Web Development Request Form (MSWord) (This form may be completed and sent electronically or may be printed.) The Web Development Priorities committee includes the Director of Web Communication and the Web Administration Coordinator from the Computer and Information Services office along with other individuals as appropriate.
