Dr. Francis CollinsHailed by media around the world for achieving one of the great feats of scientific exploration in history, the National Human Genome Research Institute succeeded in sequencing and mapping the human genome, which provides a complete genetic blueprint of man. The man who directed that project and headed the organization for the past 15 years, Francis Collins MD, PhD, will provide the keynote address for Mary Baldwin’s Alumnae/i College. A physician-geneticist, Dr. Collins was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in November 2007 by President George Bush for his significant contribution to mankind. He is also a member of the Mary Baldwin College family, as the son of the late Professor of Theatre Emeritus Fletcher Collins and wife Margaret.
