Mary Baldwin Cross Country 2009 Season Outlook
MBC Cross Country looks to build on a successful 2008 season that saw all runners achieving personal bests as they progressed through the season. Mary Baldwin will return Senior Kathryn Stephens who was a top ten runner at every meet in which she competed. Stephens has been a 2nd team all conference pick for the last two years. Holly Breen, a 3rd team all conference pick in 2008 will return for her senior year. Junior Rosa Moran who rounded out the scoring for Mary Baldwin will step up for this year’s season. Sophomore Alyssa Starnes who had a very successful freshman year and currently is 2nd on the all-time 6k record list for Mary Baldwin. Alyssa has had a strong summer of training and looks to move up in the scoring for Mary Baldwin.
Newcomers who look to add depth to the team include:
Alex Cummings from Seton School in Manassas, VA
Maria Warith is coming to Mary Baldwin after a very strong freshman year at Varina High school in both Cross Country and Track and Field. She will enter the MBC Program for the Exceptionally Gifted.
Ashley Blackwell a four year CC/Track runner from William Monroe High School in Standardsville, VA
Taylor Golding a four year Track runner from John Handley High School in Winchester, VA.
Three upperclass students coming out for the team for the first time are:
Senior – Angela Bartolacci
Sophomore – Colleen Danus
Barbara and Colleen are strong runners and cadets in the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership. Angela Bartelocci a former local standout from Wilson Memorial High School joins the team as she completes her degree.
The Squirrels open on Sept 5 at the Marlin Invitational at Virginia Wesleyan College.
