2009 Soccer Season Outlook
This coming fall marks the third season that Coach Parikakis will be at the helm of the Mary Baldwin College soccer program. With a group of very young talent, Coach P. hopes that his young team can learn from last season’s experience and take the program to new heights in 2009.
“I’m really excited about this coming season. I realize that we were very young last season. With a starting roster of 8 first-year players out of 11, we definitely took our bumps. I feel that with a year of experience in such a competitive conference like the USA South, we should be able to surprise some teams.”
The 2009 roster will have some familiar faces, but will also have a fresh look to it as well. Most of the roster consists of sophomores, but there will be a lot of incoming first-year players asked to step in and contribute immediately. This is something that Coach P. feels can benefit the program.
“The 2009 team includes a lot of first-year players that can contribute immediately. This leads to a healthy competition between the returners and the rookies during practices to prepare us for games.”
The squirrels look to open the season on the road on September 1st against Sweet Briar College. The home opener is slated for September 3 against Randolph College with a kickoff at 4:00pm.
