  • Mary Baldwin College Hosts Free Sports Clinic for Community
  • MBC hosted a free sports clinic for 3rd through 5th graders on March 14th to reach out to the community and help educate young women on the importance of sports, nutrition and life-long fitness.

The kids were able to hear about the importance of nutrition and learned about the requirements for a healthy and balanced diet. Proper weight training techniques and specific jumping movements emphasized injury prevention for these young athletes. The sports of Softball, Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer and Cross-Country touched on the fundamentals of each sport, ranging from batting and fielding for softball, simple groundstrokes in Tennis, Passing-Dribbling-and Shooting in Basketball, Forearm Passing in volleyball, Passing and Shooting for Soccer, Warm-up patterns and Sprints for Cross-Country. Each athlete was also able to compete in a short game of each sport.

We would like to thank those that came out and to encourage the community to bring our young athletes back to the clinic next year. We at Mary Baldwin believe it is important to give our youth the opportunity to participate in sports and gain a love of health and wellness for a lifetime.
