1/16 MBC Falls to Methodist in Hard Fought Battle 66-71

The Squirrels traveled to Fayetteville, NC to compete in a USA South matchup against the Methodist Monarchs. The first half proved to be very hard fought as both teams traded points back and forth. The Monarchs kept the game even with the Squirrels by converting second chance opportunities. Sabrina Desper led Mary Baldwin in scoring contributing an impressive 10 points. Denise Johnson spread the ball around and racked up 4 assists in the first half alone. At the end of the half, the Squirrels would go into the locker room only 4 points behind a tough Methodist team.

The second half started much like the first as both teams battled back and forth. Kara Hawkins and Krystal Churchman both played a very impressive second half. Kara led all scoring in the second half with 12, while Krystal put in 9 points. With 10:09 left in the game Mary Baldwin went ahead 49-48. Mary Baldwin had victory within their grasp but the Squirrels could not build on this momentum and Methodist pulled away. At the end of the game the score board read 66-71, with Methodist claiming the victory.

Sabrina Desper and Kara Hawkins led scoring for Mary baldwin with 16 points each, Krystal Churchman contributed a very complete game with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 asssits. [Box]
