
2/1 Squirrels Look to Continue Streak vs Averett on the Road
The Squirrels were out for another victory vs the Cougars of Averett. Averett won the first contest of the season in a close 60-66 loss.
Baldwin opened the game strong and were only down by 1 after a Free-throw by Christie Hamilton at 13:57 in the first. There would be five ties in the first half, and Jennifer Dobson would put the Squirrels up for the rest of the half with a three-
pointer
at 7:14. MBC would lead at the half, 36-31.
The Cougars wouldn't give up hope in the second half, scoring
the first five points to tie the game at 38-38. The Squirrels would
rebuild a 7 point lead off a layup by Christie Hamilton with 11:40
left in the ball game. Averett would
take the lead for good with
5:49. The Squirrels had three possessions with 1:47 left to play,
but turnovers would seal the win for Averett, 64-71.
The Squirrels showed balanced scoring with Kara Hawkins
grabbing 9 rebounds, and a team leading 13 points. Sabrina
Desper and Christie Hamilton scored
12 points and added 5 and
8 rebounds respectively. Jennifer
Dobson showed another
strong
performance with 11 points and 3 boards.
The Squirrels are on the road vs non-conference opponent Randolph
on Friday Feb 6th
at 7pm.
