
12/6-7 Smart Women Sweat Tourney Review
The Fighting Squirrels traveled to Agnes Scott College to compete in the Smart Women Sweat Challenge. MBC would face off against NAIA Opponent Brenau in the first game of the tournament.
MBC would play an outstanding first half, taking advantage of every opportunity by shooting 52% from the field and 90% from the free-throw line to be down 36-37 going into halftime. Sabrina Desper was a perfect 3-3 from the field and Kara Hawkins led all scorers with 10 points.
Baldwin would come out strong but would not be able to sustain the same effort in the second half. Hot shooting and a balanced effort from Brunau would spring them to an 89-70 win over MBC.
Kara Hawkins led the team with a double-double 17 points, 11 rebounds and shooting 7-10 from the charity stripe. Jennifer Dobson score 13 points with 4 assists and Sabrina Desper chipped in 12 points.
Day 2
The Fighting Squirrels competed in the second day of the Smart Women Sweat Challenge facing off against host Agnes Scott.
Baldwin looked in trouble early as the Squirrels would shoot only 28% from the field in the first half and find themselves down 36-37 going into the locker rooms at the half.
The Squirrels would improve their focus and convert more shots from the field, while doubling their efforts at the charity stripe to shoot 86%. Deja Budd took over the second half scoring 16 points on 3-4 from the field and 10-11 from the free-throw line.
Kara Hawkins had a back-to-back double double, scoring 13 points, 13 rebounds and shooting 5-7 from the charity stripe. Deja Budd added 17 points and 4 steals, while Sabrina Desper led all scorers with 18 points.
The Squirrels kick off USA South play at home vs. Meredith on Sat 12/13 at 2pm.
