Basketball Team Struggles After Exam Week
December 7, 2007
A week of exams and a tough Eastern Mennonite squad proved deadly for the Mary
Baldwin basketball team as they fell to the Royals 78-64 at Yoder Arena. The poor
shooting Squirrels got behind by 8 early in the game and was never able to catch up.
EMU went into the locker room at half with a comfortable 17 point lead. The ball didn't
fall in the bucket any better early in the second half as the Squirrels fell by as much as
26 points before pulling within 12 points.
Mary Baldwin was led in scoring by senior pointguard Jessica Carter with 18 points.
Carter also led both teams in steals with 5 for the game. Teammates Kara Hawkins
and Christie Hamilton each hit double figures in scoring with 14 apiece. Leading the
team in rebounding to the evening was Hawkins with 7.
The loss drops Mary Baldwin to 3-3 overall for the season. They are off the rest of the
month for Christmas Break and will return to action in January when they open up
conference play against Methodist University. That game is scheduled for January 5th
in Fayetteville, NC. Start time is 7:00 p.m.
