Lindsay Callison and Jennifer Barnes try for the Ball

2/10/08 MBC competes against Greensboro
Mary Baldwin, Greensboro basketball and the USA South participated in “Think Pink” today to benefit the fight against breast cancer. MBC was one of over 900 schools that participated across the country to raise money and promote awareness. The players had on “pink” shoe laces, the faculty and staff of MBC had on “Pink” T-shirts and the fans wore pink across the stands.
The game was fierce, at the beginning, for the Squirrels as they played tenacious defense and controlled the tempo of the game. MBC started with an 8-2 opening run with 16:37 in the opening half. With scoring from Jennifer Barnes, Jessica Carter, and Christie Hamilton, the Squirrels opened up a 14 point lead at 10:26 to make the score 21-7. The Fighting Squirrels would have an 11 point lead from 2 free-throws by Christie Hamilton, but the shooting would go cold, allowing the Pride to creep back into it and find themselves only down by two at the break, 36-34.
The Pride would take their first lead of the game on a three-pointer by Nikki Wilborn at 19:20 of the second half. The Pride would extend their lead to as much as 15 with 7:36 left in the game. The Squirrels outscored the Pride 12-10 in the final minutes of the game, but it wouldn’t be enough as MBC drops the game 60-73.
Christie Hamilton had 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Squirrels tonight in two categories. #21 Jessica Carter added 16 points and #12 Jennifer Dobson collected 11 points. #30 Dione Eccles of the Pride led all scorers with 22 points.
