MBC Basketball faces off againt Ferrum College in USA South Action!

Mary Baldwin’s Fight Squirrels basketball team played their third consecutive USA South conference
game tonight at home at the PAC for “Pack the PAC” night at MBC. With the bleachers fully packed,
the squirrels were ready for action against the Ferrum Panthers.

The squirrels were highly energetic but fell behind early until a Jessica Carter basket made the score
2-7. MBC couldn’t quite catch up in the first half and fell behind by as much as 17 points, ending the
half at 17-32.

The second half started with a Kara Hawkins jumper, but the Panthers started to pull away and had a
19-41 lead early in the second half. The squirrels fought back with a valiant effort.  In less than 2 min-
utes MBC went on an 8-0 run, with 2 baskets and 2 free throws from Iiesha Ricks and one from Jessica
Carter, cutting the lead to 10 points. The fighting squirrels could come back enough and finished the
game with the final score 71-57.

Christie Hamilton led the team in scoring with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Kara Hawkins had a double-
double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Iiesha Ricks had 11 points in 21 minutes and Jessica Carter
chipped in 10 points and 2 assists. The squirrels are back in action Saturday at 2pm against Averett
University in Danville, VA.
