2/02/08 MBC Basketball Drops Game vs NCW Battling Bishops

The Fighting Squirrels traveled to Rocky Mount, NC to face the Battling Bishops of NCW.

The squirrels were hot at the beginning, hitting three 3-point baskets to make the score 9-8 at 13:42 of the first half. In two minutes the game was tied at 11. The Bishops would make their move and go on a 10-2 for an 8 point lead at 8:35. MBC would cut the lead to one with their own 7-0 run, but NCW would outscore MBC 15-3, ending with a buzzer beating 3 by #23 Essence Chambers, giving NCW the lead 36-23 at the end of the half.

The Squirrels would be down by as much as 18, but cut the lead to 9 with 4:15 left in the game on two shots at the line from Iiesha Ricks. Thé Bishops would build their lead from the line the rest of the way, ending the game 75-57.

#23 Essence Chambers had a season high of 30 points for NCW. First year player Iiesha Ricks scored 10 points off the bench, Jessica Carter scored a team high 13 points, and Kara Hawkins scored her 5th double-double in a row with 11 points and 10 boards.

Thé Squirrels are up against Averett tomorrow at 2pm.
