1/27/08 MBC Defeats the Peace Pacers!! Earning 6th place in USA South Current Standings.

Opening up today against the Peace Pacers, the MBC Squirrels achieved victory yesterday afternoon against the Avenging Angels of Meredith University. Baldwin hoped to earn its 4th conference win.

MBC trailed early, 8-12 after two Jennifer Dobson free-throws helped cut the lead with 15:10 in the first half. The Squirrels went on a 9-2 run to make the lead 29-22 with 5:06 left after 5 points from Christie Hamilton. Jennifer Barnes hit at the end of the half, to make the score 38-29 and give the Squirrels the largest lead of the afternoon.

The Pacers would continue to work in the second half, and with 11:10 left to play, had taken the lead on a Brittany Lynn layup, 52-51 in favor of Peace. It was 58-57 for the Squirrels with 6:22 left when MBC would start to pull away. Jessica Carter would hit 2 three-pointers to help start the final charge, and good solid free-throw shooting from Lindsay Callison and Jennifer Dobson helped finish the game in favor of MBC, earning a final score of 73-66

Lindsay Callison was 4-4 from the line and chipped in 6 rebounds. Jennifer Dobson scored her 6 points from the line and had 7 rebounds. Christie Hamilton scored 18 and we as perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe. Jessica Carter led all scorers with 22 and was 3-5 from the 3-point arc. Kara Hawkins continues her streak of double-doubles with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Squirrels are back in action next weekend at NCW on Sat Feb 2nd at 2pm and against the Cougars of Averett at home on Sun Feb 3rd at 2pm.
