2/14 Carter Scores 39, but Squirrels Fall Short vs Hornets

Baldwin College looked for its fifth USA South victory tonight
on the road against Shenandoah University. The game was also a part of “Think
Pink” week for the USA South. The Squirrels came out slow in this
early low scoring contest., finding themselves down 1-7 with 14:51 in the
first against the Hornets. Jessica Carter looked to carry the team
for a bit and cut the lead 7-8 on her own 6-1 run. The Squirrels
would be down by as much as 7, but scoring from Lindsay Callison, Jennifer
Dobson and a basket from Jessica Carter at 3:28 would tie the game at 26.
Carter would have 20 points in the first half and the teams were tied at
32 during the break.
The Squirrels found themselves down by 6 early but would
scratch their way back to tie the game at 42 with a Jennifer Dobson Basket.
The Hornets would continue to sting the Squirrels and build another 6 point
lead until Jessica Carter hit back-to-back threes and a jumper to give MBC
an 8-0 run and the team’s first lead of the game 54-52 at 7:58. Good
rebounding would allow the Hornets to build a 10 point lead with 2:00 left
in the game. The Squirrels would score their final points from the line
and play to the end, but wouldn’t get closer than six, making the
final score 68-74.
The Squirrels fall to 7-12 on the season while the Hornets
improve to 9-11. Jessica Carter led the Squirrels with 39 points for a career-high.
Jennifer Dobson scored 12 points. The Squirrels are at home this weekend
against Methodist and take to the road for Ferrum in back to back games.
Both games are at 2pm.
