The Mary Baldwin Volleyball team looks to improve on their performance from last season in the USA South conference and in their season record overall. With the team returning some key starters and players that can contribute right away, Coach Yee hopes that the program can begin from a better place than the previous year.
The Squirrels starting setter from last season, Kim Clum returns for her third season of action at Baldwin. She averaged over 8 assists per game and 2.49 Digs per game.
“If Kim can continue to improve her location and decision making, this team will be able to run a much faster offense, she is a major piece of the success that this team can have.”
The team also returns Colena Roberts, ranked 4th in Kills per game, with 4.24, and an All-Conference Honorable Mention in her first year with the conference. Carla Hill and Christie Hamilton return for the Fighting Squirrels as well. Hill and Hamilton were 3rd and 4th respectively in Aces per Game and should be key contributors for this upcoming season.
Coach Yee states that “This team will have some players that can step in and do great jobs from last season, along with some new faces that will help set the tone for a solid performance this season. We just need to continue to improve in all aspects of the being a student-athlete.”
The Volleyball team opens the season at the EMU Invitational on Aug 30 at 2pm and has its home opener on September 11th against Roanoke College at 7pm.
