Soccer Coaches

Peter Parikakis (Head Soccer Coach)PParikakis

As Coach Parikakis enters his third season as head coach of the Mary Baldwin College soccer program in 2009, he brings with him a sense of excitement.  During his first two years, the soccer program has accomplished many of their goals they set during the preseason.  This includes having qualified for the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament and receiving nominations for USA South All-Conference awards.  Another important accomplishment of the program was being recognized by the other members of the USA South for their hard work by receiving the USA South Team Sportsmanship Award two years in a row for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. 

Prior to Mary Baldwin, Coach Parikakis was an assistant coach of the men’s and women’s programs at Iowa Central C.C. in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  Coach Parikakis’ duties while on staff for the Tritons were player development, practice & game management, and recruiting.  While working with both programs, Coach Parikakis achieved much success.  On the men’s side, the team achieved an overall record of 8-10-1.  Also, he had the opportunity to coach five (5) All-Conference selections, one NJCAA All-American, and one NSCAA All-American.  While with the women, Coach Parikakis assisted with an overall record of 14-5, including coming one game short of the National Tournament.  Along with the successful record, he also assisted in coaching five (5) All-Conference nominations and two (2) All-American nominations.

Prior to arriving at Iowa Central, Coach Parikakis served as an intern/assistant coach for the women’s varsity team at West Virginia University, located in Morgantown, West Virginia.  While at WVU, Coach Parikakis completed his graduate work in Athletic Coaching in May of 2006 graduating summa cum laude with a 4.0 grade point average.  Coach Parikakis’ duties while involved with the Mountaineer soccer program were practice & game setup, player development & training, organizing recruiting packets, and assisting with camps in the summer and fall.

Prior to WVU, Coach Parikakis was the assistant men’s coach at his alma mater Waynesburg University, formerly Waynesburg College, located in Waynesburg, PA.  As a player, he received All-PAC Conference awards for his junior and senior seasons.  He was also captain for his final two years.  While on staff of the Jacket program, he assisted the head coach with the day-to-day operations of a Division III soccer program.  This included player development & training, organization of practices, and weight room conditioning programs.  Coach Parikakis graduated with his Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training.

Originally from Follansbee, West Virginia, Coach Parikakis currently holds a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Advanced National Diploma, NSCAA National Diploma, NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma, and he also holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National “G” License.  Coach Parikakis currently resides in Staunton, VA with his Jack Russell Terrier, Gunner

Homes Tehrani (Assistant Soccer Coach)

Homes TehraniCoach Tehrani begins his fourth year as an assistant coach for the soccer program at MBC. Coach Tehrani’s duties include developing the goal keepers, working with field players and recruiting.  He will also assist Coach Parikakis with practice and game strategies. 

Coach Tehrani is currently the Head Coach for the Girl’s Varsity Soccer program at Riverheads High School. His team has won three consecutive Shenandoah District Titles (2005-2007) and he has been named Coach of the Year twice during this period. During 2007 season, his team achieved a perfect record of 15-0 regular season. He has coached area high schools in Augusta County for the last 5 years.

Coach Tehrani has been involved with the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) in Augusta County since the fall of 1999. Since then he has coached numerous teams, including travel teams, in ages 6 through 19 and he holds a certificate for Advanced Coach and Advanced Referee which are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation Coaches Education (NCACE). In addition to these achievements, he holds United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Grade 8 Referee and Virginia High school Soccer League (VHSL) Referee badges.

Coach Tehrani began playing competitive soccer in middle school and continued through college in Tehran, Iran, in intramurals at Virginia Western Community College and Club Team at Virginia Tech. Since graduation from college he has played with recreational leagues in San Jose, CA and here in Augusta County.

Coach Tehrani holds a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech and currently works for the Virginia Department of Transportation as the District River Mechanics Engineer. He resides in Staunton with his wife, Christine, son, Nicholas, daughter, Moriah, dog, Jackson, and one moody cat, Toby.
