3/12 MBC Softball Falls to Catholic in Both Games

The Fighting Squirrels Softball team continues to look for their first win of the season. Today’s afternoon matchup had the Squirrels facing the Cardinals of Catholic University of America, with Amber Ralston for the Squirrels and Stephanie Clemente as the starting pitchers.

The Squirrels struggled to get a hit but made good contact against Clemente in the first.

The Cardinals went to work early and got their first runner on with a walk and with some base stealing was in scoring position. After scoring two runs, the Cardinal went down on three strike-outs from Ralston but the damage had been done.

The Squirrels threatened to score in the second with Lacey Ogburn getting into scoring position from a single and a wild pitch, but were unable to capitalize with the runner in scoring position. The Cardinal opened up the game in the second with 6 runs that put the Squirrels down 8 runs at the bottom of the 2nd

The Squirrels got runners on again in the 3rd but would strand another runner, but got out of the 3rd with no runs scored and showed more control of the inning.

In the end, the Squirrels wouldn’t be able to overcome the deficit and lost 1-9. [Box1]
