3/21 Softball Splits games against Cazenovia, Win 9-0 and drop 1-9.
Brown hits 2 HR & Ralston throws no hitter in 1st Game
The Fighting Squirrels Softball team played faced NEAC opponent Cazenovia College who traveled from Northern New York to play today’s games.The Squirrels come off a loss against Randolph-Macon College while the Wildcats are opening up their season with today’s game.
The Squirrels found their offense early and got a hold of some of the pitches by Alison Brown. Amber Ralston got on base with a walk, and the Squirrels started to use more aggressive base running today to get people in scoring position. With Ralston stealing 2nd and Christie Hamilton getting a hit to advance the runner, brought Karen Potter up to bat. Potter would hit a deep sacrifice fly that brought Ralston home and moved Hamilton to 3rd. Hits by Lacey Ogburn and Rhonda Collins and some help from the defense, allowed 3 runs to score in the 1st inning.
The 3rd inning showed more production as Jessicca Brown came to bat with 2 runners on and another run having just scored. Returning from a slight injury, Brown worked the count and hit a 3 run homer to ignite the crowd. Brown homered again in the 4th. Amber Ralston threw a perfect came to seal up the 9-0 victory with no hits. [Box1]
Game 2
Amber Ralston continued to pitch in the second game and gave up a lead off homer from Kaila Buffis that may have signaled a change in fortunes for the Wildcats hunt. The Squirrel’s bats matched the effort in the first but couldn’t sustain their early fire power. The Wildcats built a 4-1 lead that was tempered only by some great throws from the outfield to get outs at the plate. The Wildcats scored 5 runs in the 4th, making the final score 1-9 in favor of Cazenovia. The Squirrels play their third day in a row tomorrow against Meredith College at Squirrel Park.
