3/22 Softball Looks for First USA South Win against Avenging Angels The Fighting Squirrels Softball team played their second USA team, the Avenging Angels of Meredith from Raleigh, NC. The Squirrels come off split against Cazenovia College who traveled from NY to play yesterday. The Squirrels played 2 solid innings keeping the game tied at 1-1 going into the 3rd. Ralston struggled to find the varying strike zone and ended the inning giving up 4 runs to make the game 5-1. The Squirrels would get production to get runners on base but would be strand runners in the 3rd and 4th. The Squirrels got a run in the 5th as Amelia Stout began to struggle with and walked in a run with the bases loaded. The Fighting Squirrels lost 2-11 in 5 innings. [Box1] Game 2 The Squirrels fought hard to stay in the game and had their bats come alive later in the game. They got 2 runs in the 3rd from a solid shot down the third base line from Jessicca Brown that was too hot to handle for 3b and a errant throw scored Taylor Barela. Lacey Ogburn sacrificed to bring in Karen Potter as well. MBC got 2 more in the 4th and another in the 5th inning to force a 6th. The final score was 5-18. MBC starts at 3pm on Tuesday against Eastern Mennonite University. [Box2]
