4/5 Squirrels Compete against Nationally Ranked Methodist at Squirrel Park.
Garika Williams hit 2 run homer in 2nd Game.
The Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin had an uphill battle today against a very good Methodist University team that is currently ranked 11th in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Polls at Squirrel Park. The Monarchs won 2 close games against Ferrum, while the Squirrels dropped two at home against Shenandoah.
Trying to manufacture runs was a struggle against the Monarchs today in game 1. Jessicca Brown and Karen Potter contributed to the only two hits of the game for the Squirrels that ended up losing the game 17-0. [Box1]
Game 2
Coach Shelton once again went with Ashley Crockett pitching for the Squirrels and Crockett continues to grow in that role. Some tough early breaks on defense didn’t help the cause for the Squirrels as some key outs were missed to help keep the scoring down against a solid team. Two bright spots for MBC came from Garika Williams hitting a 2 run homer in the 3rd inning and also driving in 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th. The Squirrels tried to extend the innings but were closed out by Courtney Blann of the Monarchs. Squirrels play Peace College tomorrow here at home at 1 pm. [Box2]
