3/16 MBC Softball Splits with Randolph College. Earn first win of the season!

The Fighting Squirrels Softball team earned their first win of the season in a split vs. Randolph College. Amber Ralston started once again for the Squirrels while Nikki Smith opened up for the Wildcats in game1.

Both teams made quick work in the first inning, but the Squirrels got runners on base. Lacey Ogburn started off the second inning with a lead-off walk, and then stole second to put herself in scoring position. Back to Back doubles knocked in Ogburn, and Rhonda Collins and left Garika Williams on 2nd. Kristina Jones advanced the runner, but the Squirrels didn’t get any more runs during the inning.

The game was scoreless until the 5th when the Squirrels made another run. Potter and Ralston had back to back singles to put runners on first and second. A double steal put them on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Christie Hamilton hit a shot that was mishandled to knock in Potter for the run and give the Squirrels a 3-0 lead. Amber Ralston would score when Jessicaa Brown got on from an error to get a 4-0 lead. The Wildcats would score 2 runs in the 7th but the Squirrels would hold on to win 4-2. [Box1]

Karen Potter and Amber Ralston would each drive in a run. Jamie Edwards scored on an error, and Christie Hamilton drove in 2 runs off a double she hit and give the Squirrels a 5-3 lead. The game would be tied at 8 going into the bottom of the 5th and Wildcats up to bat.
