3/12 MBC Tennis Wins Season Opener vs Salem

Head Coach Donna Miller returns to form quickly so far this season. In the young season, MBC Tennis defeated Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC today, for their first win of the season. In the singles, all matches were well played and hard fought. All three doubles matches were extremely tight, with Salem winning at #1 doubles and Mary Baldwin at number 2 and 3.  The victory was earned with a 5-4 score and has the Fighting Squirrels starting out the season 1-0.

Salem's #1 Elise Norton came into the match with a knee injury and sadly had to retire after the first set against Nicole Koiner. She was up 4-1 in the first set and looking like she had the match under control.

#2 Caitlin Crowe was tough and very consistent against Salem's Anna Devoe. She took the first set 6-0, but was down 1-4 before coming back to take 5 games in a row, with very long points that were well played.

#3Ania Grazynska dropped 2 sets vs Michala Michaux, who played a great match and won, 6-2, 6-3.

#4 Dasha Caron battled vs Elena LaViolett. Dasha fought tough in the first set but dropped 5-7 and LaViolett coasted to a 6-1 second set for the win

#5 Gretchen Domaleski faced Kim Wisen who played flawlessly, and consistently, with focus and tenacity to her match 3-6, 3-6

#6 Frances Webber defeated Tori Collier to help keep the Match tied and have Doubles decide the winner.

The match was an extremely hard fought match by both of the teams.
