MBC got off to a slow start in the first match against Dickinson. The Squirrels would make a stronger showing in the second set but would be unable to come away with the match, dropping 0-3. Melanie Updike led the Squirrels with 8 kills, while Marian Howard added 7 kills and Amanda Miller had 5 kills. Carla Hill dug 13 balls while Kim Clum dished out 21 assists in the match.
The Second Match of the tournament vs Dickinson, the Squirrels showed 2 freshman setters running the show. While the Squirrels didn’t score lots of points, the intensity was high as the Squirrels dropped 0-3. Santana Strickler and Paige Babb each had 5 assists, while Anna Schueren led the team with 5 kills and Carla Hill chipped in 8 digs.
The Squirrels closed out the tournament against the Vixens of Sweet Briar. The match would go four sets as the Squirrels battled to the wire in game 1, with the Vixens having match point 4 times before coming back. The Squirrels dropped set 3, but would separate from the Vixens 18-14 in set 4 and hold on for the first win of the season. Marian Howard would lead the team with 14 kills and a strong .314 hitting percentage. Anna Schueren had 11 kills and didn’t play the last set due to injury. Carla Hill led the team with 20 digs, while Kim Clum earned a double-double with 34 assists, 11 digs and added 7 kills.
