9/11 Volleyball Takes Game but Couldn't Win Match vs Roanoke
The Squirrels showed their fight today but couldn't overcome the strong serving of the Maroons.
Game 1 for the Squirrel's home opener started out with struggles receiving serve. The Maroons jumped out to an early lead, which MBC didn't recover from in the set.
Game 2 was intense, with much of the game going in favor of Roanoke. The Squirrels would go on an run at 18-24 with serving from Kara Jenkins. Jenkins would serve 7 times with 2 aces as the team would work its way back to take the lead 25-24 and bring the crowd roaring to life. Roanoke would answer right back to tie it up, but the Squirrels would hold on for the win with a tip kill by Colena Roberts.
Games 3 and 4 showed tough serving by the Maroons that the Squirrels struggled to handle for the remaining two sets. Colena Roberts led all hitters with 16 kills, and Anna Schueren and Christie Hamilton turned in impressive hitting performances with 6 kills apiece. The final scores were 16-25, 27-25, 16-25, 10-25. The Squirrels are back in action next Thursday at Randolph College for a 6:30pm start. [Box]
