9/23 Volleyball Gets First USA South Win Over Shenandoah

The squirrels played tough against the Hornets of Shenandoah in USA South competition. Mary Baldwin jumped out to an early lead in the first game winning 25 to 20.  The second and third games were hard fought.  Mary Baldwin lost the second 25 to 22, but then rebounded and won the third 27 to 25.  Going into the fourth game the Squirrels came out with confidence, jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back, winning the match 25 to 18.  Notable performances in the game included Anna Schueren with 13 kills, Melanie Updike with 12 kills, and Marian Howard with 11 kills.  Kim Clum earned 32 assists while on the defensive side Carla Hill had 32 digs.  This was the volleyball team’s first conference win.and improved their conference record to 1-4.
