Foreign Service Facility Manager
Qualifications and Specialized Experience Requirements
The applicant’s experience, education, and training should show that they have an in-depth knowledge of their field and possess the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform facility management and/or facility management duties at Department of State facilities worldwide. Specialized experience obtained through work in the facility management or engineering field on large facilities and large physical plants will be given the most favorable consideration.
Applicants should show that their job-related experience has been at progressively increasing levels of performance and responsibility through such indicators as promotions, raises, increases in duties and responsibilities, expanded project scope, authority, and organizational and employee impact.
Specialized experience requirements will be judged based on past performance of activities in the field of Facility Management/Facility Engineer/Facility Technician or engineering positions disciplines or property management.
Examples of specialized experience include: Managing all aspects of large commercial and residential buildings and related systems and equipment to include: working with projects that require specialized knowledge of engineering drawings and designs, safety functions and applicable building codes, managing and administering preventative and non-preventative maintenance programs, managing the financial aspects of a variety of contracts and supervising staff.
Required Education and Experience:
U.S. citizen, between 20-59 years old, and worldwide available.
By law (Foreign Service Act of 1980), all career candidates (except for preference-eligible veterans) must be appointed to the Foreign Service prior to the month in which they reach age 60.
If you are 59 1/2 years of age or over and claiming a 5 point veteran's preference, you must submit a copy of your DD-214 with your application. If you are claiming a 10 point veteran’s preference, in addition to the DD-214, you must submit your VA letter and SF-15 with your application. (This is required if you are preference eligible.)
