Statistical Analyst Supervisor

The Department of Labor and Industry's Research and Analysis team is seeking a self-motivated individual to serve as the full-time Statistical Analyst Supervisor at the Headquarters' Office in Richmond, Virginia. This position is the lead statistician for collection, compilation, analysis, and dissemination of Virginia occupational injuries, illnesses, and fatalities to meet the requirements for the Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) and the annual Survey of Occupational Injuries & Illnesses (SOII). This individual will also serve as supervisor for the staff assigned to this unit. The candidate will collect data in accordance with a cooperative agreement with the Bureau of Labor Statistics, following established procedures, and coding data using a national classification system. Compliance with federal requirements including established deadlines and data quality is necessary.

Required Education and Experience:

The ideal candidate must possess: Experience utilizing data processing applications to organize large quantities of data; Experience portraying excellent customer service skills, to include a proven ability to assess and respond to customer needs while managing multiple tasks and deadlines; Strong effective oral and written communication skills; Documented experience in working both as an active and contributing team member as well as independently; Attention-to-detail; Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality; and High school diploma or equivalent. The preferred qualifications are: Knowledge of occupational safety and health programs; Knowledge of Bureau of Labor Statistics survey and data compilation techniques in the areas of occupational injuries and illnesses (SOII) and fatalities (CFOI); Knowledge of the OSHA Form 300; Knowledge of and experience utilizing statistical survey instrumentation and methodology, research methods, techniques and reporting formats; Experience serving in a supervisory capacity; Experience with government research or survey programs is helpful as is experience in a work or university environment involving workplace injuries/illness data, preferably in a lead capacity; Experience delivering presentations to diverse audiences; A degree in the area of economics, mathematics, statistics, public administration, or a related field and/or equivalent applicable experience or training in the areas previously listed; and Verifiable fluency speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. Interview candidates may be required to demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory performance of work. The candidate selected for the position must successfully complete a criminal background investigation as well as complete and submit on an annual basis a Statement of Personal Economic Interest. The selected candidate who begins original employment or re-employment in this position must serve a 12-month probationary period effective from the date of employment.
