Patient Access Representative

MAJOR FUNCTION:

Level I: Promotes a positive patient encounter as first impression of the hospital. Ensures accurate identification of patients per the organization’s established patient identifiers. Ensures accuracy of demographic and financial information throughout the patient interview process and obtains applicable consent signatures. Enters appropriate diagnosis (as applicable,) procedure, and physician information for medical record documentation and communicates with insurance companies and physician offices regarding coverage and authorization requirements. Collects co-payments & self pay deposits when appropriate. Demonstrates an understanding of and compliance with local, state, federal, third party, EMTALA, and The Joint Commission regulations. Must maintain AHIQA accuracy rate of 95%.

Level II: In addition to Level I, functions independently in the role of Patient Access Representative. Must maintain an AHIQA accuracy rate of 97%.

Level III: In addition to Level I & II, supports the Patient Access Leadership Team in coordinating day to day activities to ensure exceptional customer service and effective management of patient flow. In addition to serving as a preceptor for new and less experienced staff, also participates or leads special projects and serves as a department representative when asked to attend meetings. Demonstrates superior knowledge and understanding of patient access functions and is capable of performing them at a high level. Must maintain an AHIQA accuracy rate of 99%.

Required Education and Experience:

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCE DETERMINATION:

1.Education: High School diploma/GED required, some college desirable. 2.License/Certifications: Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) required. 3. Experience: Physician office or hospital registration experience preferred. 2+ years experience working with the public, strong customer service skills required.
