Academic Advisor

Full-time, tenure track position (12 months) available Fall 2014 in Academic Affairs. Candidate will assist student in Developing suitable educational plans by advising in the selection of courses appropriate to degree programs, linking course work with transfer, caree/vocational plans and goals, interpreting institutional requirements, explaining general education requirements, increasing awareness of educational resources available on campus and making referrals to other institutional and community support services. Additional duties include: leading new student group advisement sessions, conducting family information sessions, teaching students how to register, maintaining record of advisement and monitoring advisees' academic progress. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, interact with administration regarding departmental needs, serve on campus-wide committees and provide periodic outreach to the campus community.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred. Minimum of one year experience working with assisting students in educational development and academic programming in higher education including academic advising, registration and student support functions. Excellent communication skills required as well as ability to relate well to students and campus colleagues, and function as a team pleayer in a dynamic setting. This position requires the use of BANNER, MyCollege, Advisor Trac and Degree Works as well as the ability to understand and convey academic requirements for college programs and make presentatons to classes and other groups. Candidate comfortable in a learner-centered environment and committed to the community college mission are encouraged to apply.
