Camp Counselor

Camp Easter Seals UCP offers children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy fun and challenging activities in a unique and supportive camp atmosphere. To help contribute to this environment we are seeking camp counselors for summer employment. Camp counselors supervise and care for campers' personal needs as well as lead and assist campers with camp activities.

In addition to running activities program specialists assist counselors with camper care and supervision. We are seeking specialists for the following. • Programs Director * • Aquatics (lifeguards)* • Adventure (camping, nature, ropes course)* • Performing Arts • Arts & Crafts • Horseback Riding* • Adaptive Sports *Experience or certification required

• Minimum of 18 years of age • Have compassion and patience • Be physically and cognitively able to supervise campers and assist with their personal care • Be able to lift at least 50 lbs on a daily basis • Act ethically and honestly • Desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others

Camp Easter Seals UCP Virginia is located about forty five minutes northwest of Roanoke in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. We offer children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy fun and challenging activities in a unique and supportive camp atmosphere. Our campers have a variety of disabilities including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and several other physical and mental disabilities. Physical, occupational, and speech therapy camp sessions are also offered for kids/teens. The summer ends with a week for families that have a child with a disability. Counselors come from around the country and world to work at the camp. Many staff have described their experience at camp as “life changing!”

The setting: Camp Easter Seals UCP Virginia is nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains near Roanoke, VA. The camp is bordered by Craig Creek on one side and Jefferson National Forrest on the other.

The staff: work along side talented and motivated counselors who enjoy serving people with disabilities. People come from all over the country and world to work at our camp.

 Children/Teens, ages 6 through high school age; activities include: swimming, canoeing, climbing wall, arts and crafts, sports and games, nature, talent shows and more o 12 and 6 day options  Adults, ages 18 and up; activities include: swimming, canoeing, climbing wall, arts and crafts, sports and games, nature, dances and more o 12 and 6 day options  Family Camp Unlimited, camp for the whole family; similar activities to kids/teens (Great for parents who are a little nervous about their child being away and would like to see what camp is all about) o 6 day option  Weekend Respite Camps –come Friday evening and leave Sunday during the spring and fall.
