Class of 1960
Celebrate! It's Our 50th Reunion!
I can hardly believe that next spring we are having our 50th Reunion - if you haven’t already, please mark your calendars for April 8-11, 2010, and plan to join me for our special weekend.
In March, I had the opportunity to visit MBC for this year’s reunion weekend. I was a guest of MBC and attended many of the events scheduled on Thursday just for the Class of 1959, the 50th reunion class, like a special luncheon that was held at President Pamela Fox's house. Did you know she is very musical? She played a lovely piece on her piano, instead of having a prayer before lunch. Later, we were picked up by a trolley for a tour of Staunton. I must admit we went to places that I had never been to before or knew about. I loved learning more about Staunton's history. I even stopped by the college's student center and bought a book which was recommended. Another highlight on Thursday was a concert by the Mary Baldwin College Concert Choir at the Presbyterian Church.
Then, on Friday, I attended a luncheon where the Class of 1959 was inducted into the Grafton Society at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel. This is a time-honored tradition for alumnae who graduated 50 years ago. Mrs. Menk was also in attendance. I even met an aunt of Sally Armstrong Bingley's at the luncheon. It was also fun to catch up with members from the Class of 1959 - Mary Katherine (Snig) Phlegar Davis (no one in the alumnae office knew her nick name), Emory O'Shee Apple, Sidney Williams Gooding, Ann McClung Anderson, and Ann Singletary Bass to name a few.
Wednesday evening, I had dinner with Florence Lee Wellons. We had a wonderful time talking a mile a minute and catching up and laughing...my we did laugh a lot. She is still selling real estate and is very involved doing lots of volunteer work in Charlottesville. To show you what a small world it is, her husband used to work with my brother-in-law at the UVA Hospital in Charlottesville.
While in Staunton, I also visited many restaurants and other venues to hold our class dinner. I even looked at various hotels and Bed & Breakfasts where our class could stay. A decision has been made...now it is just a matter of fixing desirable costs, which the college is working on.
Many of the events that I have mentioned above are already being planned for our 50th Reunion, so pass the word on to all your friends, and encourage them to attend Reunion 2010. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and I will keep you posted on our reunion festivities.

Dear members of the Class of 1960: We apologize for incorrectly publishing information in the February Cupola Class Columns section about your classmate Sally Armstrong Bingley. The column should have indicated that Gunilla "Nilla" Philipson Klose is a massage therapist and that her daily transportation is by bike. A corrected note will appear in the summer 2010 issue of The Mary Baldwin College Magazine. Thank you for your continued contributions to Class Columns.
Sincerely,
