Pickett Craddock’s Award-Winning B & B: Oak Grove Plantation

PICKETT CRADDOCK ‘s historic B & B near South Boston, Virginia has just won the Virginia Green Travel Star Award as the “Green B & B” of 2013! Oak Grove Plantation, PICKETT’S family home in Cluster Springs, installed solar panels to become the first solar photovoltaic system to generate clean electricity at a Virginia bed & breakfast. Oak Grove has also installed an energy-efficient heating and air conditioning system. The project will allow the bed and breakfast to extend its season beyond the traditional months of May-September. Besides using solar power, the inn recycles, has compost pile for vegetable scraps and has installed “low-e” energy-efficient storm windows.  Motorists who arrive in hybrid autos get a third night free. Also, the inn uses rain barrels to collect water, has a tankless electric hot water heater, and uses compact fluorescent lighting.
