General Information
Tickets
Tickets for all meals and events should be picked up at the
Registration Center in the Pub in Pannill Center during
registration Friday and Saturday. Late arrivals can pick
up tickets at the Security Office in Taylor House on Sycamore Street.
Parking and Shuttle Service
You may park in any lot on campus. Shuttle vans will circle
campus on Saturday and Sunday for your convenience (look for signs designating
shuttle stops). Remember that our hills are steep and there are lots of
steps — so bring your comfortable shoes!
Special Assistance
Mary Baldwin’s beautiful hilltop campus can be a challenge to navigate.
We can help get you around — if you need special assistance, just
let us know when you complete the registration form.
Class Pictures
The Class of 2008 group picture will be taken at noon Saturday,
May 17. You may order a picture on Saturday, May 17.
Photographing Your Graduate
We have made arrangements for a professional
photographer to capture the moment each student receives her/his
diploma during the Commencement ceremony. About one week after
Commencement, Chappell Studios will mail photo proofs to you.
You may elect to order photos and pay Chappell Studios according
to their instruction at that time. Information about this option
is included in your registration packets.
There
will be a designated area on Page Terrace for those who wish
to take a photograph. The available area is quite small and
accommodates only one person at a time. Please be mindful of
others who are also waiting to take a photograph: Take your
shot and move aside quickly. It is important not to disturb
the ceremony.
Commencement Ball
Seniors look forward to, and help in planning, the final
major event before graduation: Commencement Ball. A live band in the Student
Activities Center keeps things moving while a DJ works musical magic in
the adjoining Pub. Seniors, who attend free, must have their college ID
to enter the Ball. Guests of seniors —
family members and friends must purchase a ticket in advance
or at the door, $15.
Cash bar.
Commencement Day Refreshment Center
For your convenience, hot dogs and cold drinks may be purchased
for a small charge during Commencement. A limited amount will
be available.
What to Expect
Your safety and comfort matter to us! The two-hour Commencement
ceremony will be on the Barbara Kares Page Terrace, in
front of Martha S. Grafton Library. Seating will be on
the hillside; please bring something to sit on (blankets are good for the
slope, and lawn chairs are helpful on the limited level areas). Sunscreen,
a broadbrimmed hat, and water are recommended. PLEASE NOTE: In case of
inclement weather, Commencement will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Expoland in
Fishersville, Virginia (Interstate 64, Exit 91); the change of location
and time will be announced on the MBC Web site and on local television
and radio stations.
Cancellations Policy (we hope you won’t
need to use this!)
After May 1, confirmed reservations and payments are nonrefundable.
Special-Needs Seating
A very limited amount of special-needs seating is available
for those with severe health or mobility problems. Please
use the registration form to request the number of special-needs
seats your group will require. If special seating is available, you will
be issued a special-needs seating pass for the person designated and one
person to assist (not for the whole family). If you need wheelchair space,
please request it on the registration form and we will be happy to accommodate
you.
