The MBC Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program invites the community to hear Rochel Gelman, codirector of the Center for Cognitive Science at Rutgers University and professor of psychology, at 7 p.m. January 31 in Francis Auditorium.
 
  Terra cycling > What Goes Around Comes Around: TerraCycle's Green Spin on Recycling
A small, up-and-coming company founded in 2001, TerraCycle makes use of products that are often challenging to recycle. On the Mary Baldwin campus, it is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.

Three freshmen international students at Mary Baldwin College made the bold decision to volunteer to help those less fortunate in New York City during winter break.

  News Leader > Trash talk: Landfill does what it can with what it's given
Last April, Steve Grande, director of the Spencer Center for Civic and Global Engagement at Mary Baldwin College, led his students in a dramatic recycling exercise. They dug through the garbage from four campus dormitories and were able to recycle about 40 percent of what they found.
 
  News Virginian > Debunking stereotypes: MBC to host Islamic Awareness Week
Hawa Omar and Nourhan El Koptan help make up a community of 12 American and international Muslim students from about eight different countries at Mary Baldwin College. This week, the students will host a series of exhibits, lectures, dinners and other social events for the school's first Islamic Awareness Week.

  Jewish Film Festival > February 6 and 7
Staunton Jewish Film Festival

With the theme Community Diversity, the festival will be held February 5 and 6 in Francis Auditorium at Mary Baldwin College. Now in its fourth year, the event features five films that explore cross-cultural relationships, love, religion, and family. Each will be followed by a discussion. The festival is sponsored by Temple House of Israel and the Spencer Center at Mary Baldwin College.
