Tuition Reimbursement from Employers
You may be eligible for tuition reimbursement from your employer. Read the following information carefully and check the list below of employers who offer tuition reimbursement. If you do not see your employer listed, ask if they have tuition reimbursement.
If your employer offers a tuition reimbursement program, be aware that the Financial Aid Office considers this employee benefit as part of your financial resources when determining your eligibility for aid. If you apply for need-based aid (including federal student loans), you must inform the Aid Office in writing of the amount of your tuition benefit. If the employee benefits result in an over-award of need-based aid, the Financial Aid Office may be required to reduce your aid dollars. This could mean that you have to repay a portion of any financial aid you have already received.
If you receive tuition reimbursement from your employer, you can select 1 of 3 ways to arrange payment for each semester's coursework. For all plans, you, not your employer, will hold the responsibility for payment of the bill.
- Instruct the college to bill your employer directly for
your tuition by attaching a letter to your registration
form from your employer that confirms this arrangement.
On the registration form, check "A voucher or letter
from my employer is attached," and write next to it,
PLEASE BILL MY EMPLOYER DIRECTLY. Your employer will be
billed at the beginning of the semester. If you are applying
for financial aid, be sure to also send a copy of this letter
to the Financial Aid Office.
- If your company will reimburse you at the end of the semester,
attach a letter to the registration form from your employer
confirming that arrangement. On the registration form, check
"A voucher or letter from my employer is attached."
You will receive monthly bills throughout the semester,
but the letter from your employer will release you from
paying them until the end of the term. If you are applying
for financial aid, be sure to also send a copy of this letter
to the Financial Aid Office.
Important Note: If you extend (ET) the deadline of your tuition reimbursement course(s), you must pay for that coursework by the end of the original semester and you will not be able to register for the next semester's coursework until your original tuition bill is paid in full. The college's auditors do not permit us to carry anyone "on account" beyond one semester.
- Pay your tuition yourself at the beginning of the semester and settle up with your employer on your own when you have completed the course. If paying up front is difficult, you could work out a payment plan with the Business Office, Mary Baldwin College (540-887-7364).
