Public Access and Use
As an independent institution, Mary Baldwin College provides an academic library
for the use of its students, faculty, and staff. Other individuals are welcome
to visit and to use designated library materials in accordance with library
policies. The College reserves the right to restrict any individual from
entering Grafton Library, or from using any of its materials, equipment,
facilities, or services.
Community Borrowers
Members of the Staunton/Augusta community, including local high school students,
American Shakespeare Center affiliates, and members of cooperating colleges*,
may obtain an MBC library card by filling out an application at the main
desk of the library. Beginning in January 2008 there will be no
fee to become a community borrower. Community members are allowed
to borrow books from the library’s circulating collection; however, videos,
DVDs, reference items, bestsellers, and periodicals are not available
for checkout. Use of the library card is restricted to the person
to whom it has been issued. Cardholders are responsible for all fines
and replacement costs for lost or damaged books.

Online Resources
Licensing agreements require that the College limit access to online resources.
These resources are available to current MBC faculty, staff, and students
as well as to students and faculty from participating VIVA institutions.
Other members of the public may use designated workstations, available
on the main and the mezzanine floors, to consult the library’s
online catalog.
Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan service is restricted to current MBC faculty, students,
and staff. High School faculty requests for interlibrary loan of AV materials
must come through their high school librarian.
Audiovisual Materials
Use of AV materials is available only to current MBC faculty, staff, and
students. Media items and equipment owned by Mary Baldwin College are
used solely in support of Mary Baldwin college courses and programs or
in general support of its academic mission. The institution is, regrettably,
unable to lend or lease its audiovisual equipment to outside groups or
agencies.
