In collaboration with Judith Steel, MA, CMA at Virginia Commonwealth University, Lisa Shoaf, director of physical therapy submitted to the peer review process for the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science a paper titled “Integrating the Shoulder Complex to the Body as a Whole: Applications for the Dancer.”
Shoaf also provided educational sessions titled “Injury Prevention for the String Musician” to the students at the Heifetz International Music Institute at Mary Baldwin College for summer 2013. She also served as a physical therapy consultant to improve posture and address overuse issues of individual students.
Ben Herz, director of occupational therapy, has had a book chapter accepted for publication. Assistive Technology and Leisure, (Kathy Flecky, editor) will be published in 2014 by F.A. Davis Publishing, Philadelphia.
His research paper, “Nintendo Wii Rehabilitation (“Wii-hab”) Provides Benefits in Parkinson’s Disease,” will also appear in Parkinsonism & Related Disorders. Herz also participated in the Fishersville Parkinson’s Support group on August 3, 2013, facilitating the patient aspect of a patient and caregiver forum.
David Paulk, director of physician assistant studies, recently published a chapter titled “Child Abuse and Neglect” in The Resident’s Guide to Ambulatory Care Medicine, 7th Edition, Weinstock, MB, Niedes, DM, and Chan, M. expected publication early 2014. Anadem Publishing, Columbus, Ohio.
In collaboration with Donna Agnew, he also is in process of revising the Physician Assistant Review Guide, 2nd Edition. Expected publication 2014. Jones and Bartlett Publishing, Burlington, Massachusetts.
