Student Life
The college and the many student organizations offer
on-campus activities during the week and the weekends.
Annual events, such as Apple Day, mixers, theatre, music, lectures, and coffee
houses offer a richness and diversity of options. Hanging out with friends — whether
it be in a residence hall, in the Spencer Center,
or in downtown Staunton — tops
the list of activities.
Students also have access to larger cities such as Washington, D.C. (2.5 hours),
Richmond (1.75 hours) and Roanoke (1.5 hours) where they can enjoy shops,
museums and theaters.
Shenandoah National Park,
national forests, and recreation areas present unlimited opportunities to
enjoy backpacking, hiking, rafting, canoeing, and camping. Two ski resorts
are also within a short drive from campus.
Varsity sports include tennis, volleyball, basketball, cross country, softball,
and soccer. MBC competes in NCAA Division III and participates in the USA
South Athletics Conference. Club sports are fencing, field hockey and cheerleading.
International Housing Policy
To help you become accustomed to American culture, all international students
are housed on the Mary Baldwin campus with an American roommate. For more
detailed information on housing at Mary Baldwin, see the Residence
