Named Lectures and Special Events

Mary E. Humphreys Biology Lectures brings prominent scientists to the MBC campus. The lecture was inaugurated in the spring of 1992 and is sponsored by former students of Dr. Humphreys, professor emerita of biology.

The Elizabeth Kirkpatrick Doenges Visiting Artist/Scholar brings distinguished professionals and scholars in visual and literary arts to MBC for an extended period of time, providing learning opportunities for the college and the community. The program is named for Elizabeth K. "Liddy" Doenges '63.

Smyth Business Program and Smyth Leadership Lectures brings prominent leadership figures to campus. The program and lecture was established in 1997 through the generosity of MBC Trustee H. Gordon Smyth and his wife Mary Beth Smyth '47.

The Susan Paul Firestone Lecture Series in Contemporary Art brings significant visual artists and art critics to campus. A three-day residency of the artist or critic includes a public lecture and close interaction with art students through class discussions and critiques. This lecture series was initiated through the generosity of Ray A. Graham III; and, it honors the creative work and accomplishments of Susan Paul Firestone '68.

Phi Beta Kappa Lectures bring to campus outstanding scholars representing a wide variety of academic fields. While on campus, lecturers present a public lecture, visit classes, and meet with students. Sponsored by the MBC chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.
