Portals on View at MBC’s Hunt Gallery
Portals, an exhibition of mixed-media works by artist Mary Robinson will be on view in Mary Baldwin College’s Hunt Gallery February 12–March 9.
In her artist’s statement, Robinson states: “Our perception tells us that we all ’occupy’ space. That space that we occupy incorporates multiple levels it is not just the perceived space immediately surrounding us, but also the space within our bodies and the indefinable space our minds occupy. If we could see such conditions, what would it look like? In these recent mixed media works, I am imaginarily climbing through portals, portals opening to that which is beyond my visual perception.”
Robinson earned her BFA in painting at University of Colorado, her MA in art history at University of Wisconsin, and her MFA in printmaking at Indiana University. Since 2004 she has been an assistant professor and head of printmaking at University of South Carolina. Robinson has received numerous grants and awards from the University of South Carolina, the Fulbright-Hayes Study Abroad Project, and the Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington, among others. Her work is in the collections of the Amity Art Foundation, Indiana University, Rutgers University, Kohler Art Library, and University of Wisconsin. She has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions at numerous public and commercial galleries across the country, including California State University, Rutgers University, Purdue University, University of Alaska, and the Impressions Gallery in Perth, Australia.
A reception for the artist will be held Monday, February 12 at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Hunt Gallery is dedicated to the exhibition of contemporary work in all media by regionally and nationally recognized artists. The gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. during the college’s academic year.
