Susan M. Britton 1947–2010

Susan Britton and MBC President Pamela Fox

Britton worked at MBC from 1992 until her retirement in June. She previously was a teacher for 22 years at Thomas W. Dixon Elementary School.

“Susan was a splendid colleague and a determined professional who was devoted to the task of preparing the best possible teachers for our classrooms,” said Jim Harrington, MAT director. “Her colleagues in Edmonson House are particularly mindful of the many reminders we have here of the wonderful work Susan did for our program and we are grateful for her colleagueship and service. Our thoughts are with her husband, Wayne, and her family.”

Upon leaving Mary Baldwin, Britton said she would remember and always be grateful to former professors Lesley Novack and Patty Westhafer for hiring her as a teaching partner.

“I will miss the students and my co-workers in the Graduate Teacher Education Program,” she said at the time.

She is survived by husband William Wayne Britton.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. October 16 in Staunton’s First Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Richard S. Dietrich and Randolph Harrison and the Rev. Ruth Graham. Burial will be private.

Mary Baldwin invites friends, colleagues, and former students to post tributes and memories to the college’s Facebook page.
