Columnist to Deliver Spiritual Message
Writer Norris Burkes — whose newspaper columns engage readers with humor and “everyday life” situations — will share insight and the power of forgiveness in a community lecture November 1.
Known for using everyday experiences in his writings, Burkes’ talk will include storytelling methodology, complete with personal narratives and comedic side comments. Burkes’ column appears in more than 50 newspapers in 17 states, including the Sunday edition of Staunton’s News Leader. His lessons come from a variety of sources, experiences, and backgrounds, including time spent in the U.S. Air Force and as a Baptist pastor.
Burkes earned a double major in religion and journalism from Baylor University. He has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and has received accolades from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. A collection of his columns can be found in No Small Miracles by Integrity Publishing.
The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in Mary Baldwin College’s Hunt Dining Hall (West). The event is free and open to the public.
