A classical music group that formed out of the MUS 108 chamber music class has become the latest iteration of a Mary Baldwin College string ensemble. The quintet — directed by Beth Cantrell, adjunct instructor of music — debuted at the April 8 Global Citizen Society induction at the Spencer Center. Selections included The Forest Green, English traditional tune, arr. Ralph Vaughan-Williams (1872-1958); Pavane from Capriol Suite, by Philip Arnold Heseltine, aka Peter Warlock (1894-1930); and Air in G Major, by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759).

“We were blessed to have just exactly the right mix of instruments to be able to play this music,” Cantrell said of the ensemble, adding that they plan to continue in the fall.

Members are: Eunji Lim ’12 (an exchange student from Sungshin University) and Laurentia Tuff ’13, violin; Katherine Gormley ’14, viola; Laura Wise ’14, cello; and Dayneisha Davis ’12, bass.
