The Augusta Lions Club and the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership (VWIL) have awarded the Aubrey Jackson Community Service Award to MBC senior and WVIL cadet Courtney Waugh.
Waugh, from Chesapeake, is helping to lead a civic engagement internship trip next spring to Staunton’s Sister City, Dabas, Hungary, with support from the Lions Club.
Working toward a major in Health Care Administration and a minor in leadership studies, the senior hopes to help provide better health care in the developing world.
Waugh serves as “Voice of the Corps,” narrating all of the VWIL parades, and serves in Residence Life as peer advisor, resident assistant, and as an upper-class assistant community coordinator. She is a Beasley Scholar and is listed among Who’s Who at American Colleges and Universities. As a member of the President’s Society, Waugh leads campus tours, hosts prospective students, and supports special events and marketing activities. She also helps with college fundraising as a member of the Student Alumnae/i Relations Society.
Jackson is a member of the Augusta Lions and was a familiar, friendly face at MBC for many years as supervisor of the campus mail service.
